Starlight Brings Holiday Gift Store to Harborview Medical Center
Hospitalized children can't shop so we bring the "store" to them! Each year Starlight Washington hosts its annual holiday gift store or pediatric patients at Harborview Medical Center. Last year, action toys, Barbie dolls, and infant board books were among the most popular gifts for preteens and toddlers, while some selections seemed just right for any age group. After carefully considering her options, one preteen girl selected a cute and colorful M&M dispenser for the teenager in her family. Cuddly teddy bears were offered to all gift-givers.
Starlight provides opportunities for normal childhood experiences -- and giving gifts to others is one of those normal childhood experiences. Washington state residents donated most of holiday store's merchandise during Starbucks' annual Holiday Angel Joy Drive. Volunteers sorted the items by age and gender and helped each child select and wrap gifts, while Starbucks volunteers offered cocoa and cookies all around.
